Our Story

Seventy years ago, the Choo Clan Association was established, which also opened a new chapter in the history of your association in Singapore.

In the early colonial era, various ethnic groups organized associations or clan associations, the purpose of which was to protect themselves and take care of each other. In order to contact the folks scattered in various places, the ancestors of Choo initiated activities to establish the Choo Clan Association. At the same time, in order to make the clan family a permanent venue for activities, in 1946, the council purchased a two-story shophouse through the clan’s side donation, which served as the venue for Choo Clan descendants. It can be seen that the Singapore Choo Clan Association is a symbol of the efforts of the clansmen to join forces, and it is also a focal point for the strength of the villagers.

Over the years, the Choo Clan Association has been promoting the social progress and economic development to the Chinese nation at home and abroad, and has also spared no effort to contribute to the prosperity of Chinese culture. In Singapore, the association is committed to promoting exhibition affairs, actively recruiting members, and promoting family relationships. Choo clan focuses on humanities education and often organizes some meaningful activities. For example, in the education field, the Choo Clan Association awarded the first scholarship in 1979. In the past 38 years, a total of $90,000 has been issued as an education scholarship, and there have been 700 scholarships so far greatly benefiting children of members in the association.

The Choo Clan Association has gone through seventy years and embodies the spirit of helping each other in the same boat. In those hard times, our ancestors worked hard and invested money to purchase our current Choo Clan Association property, and he actually laid the foundation for stabilizing for the descendants of Choo. To enable us to continue our conference affairs in a stable environment. 

The association is an organization of clan friendship. In the early days, the Choo clan started a clan association in order to live, leaving the harsh environment of the hometown, travel to Southeast Asia, and to take care of each other and support each other. As the times has evolved, the development of conference affairs needs to keep pace with the times. We still retain the fine traditional culture, more in line with the changes of the times, the changes in people’s lifestyles, the introduction of new elements, and the development of conference activities. In recent years, we have young members joining the board of directors, which is a gratifying phenomena. I hope that the children of the members can join the big family of the Association, participate in the activities of the Association, and become future successors, so that our conference affairs can be passed down from generation to generation.
